Leaflet / pamphlet

Item no. 28153
1939
New York
Occupation: Hotel and restaurant
Collection: Union

The leaflet issued by the New York Trades Council calls upon the hotel workers to celebrate a historic labor event -- the signing of the first wage and hour union contract between the Hotel Association of New York City and the New York Hotel Trades Council on January 18, 1939 at the New York State Building in downtown New York City. Note the hats in the air, representing the different crafts in the hotel trades - baker, bellman, waitress and elevator operator - and note, too, the faces of a representative mix of gleeful workers.
